The Salento area, also known as Salento peninsula, is an Italian subregion, in the very southern tip of Apulia. It gives onto the Ionian sea to the west and onto the Adriatic sea to the east.

The inhabitants of the area, which comprises the entire province of Lecce, almost all the province of Brindisi and a part of the province of Taranto, stand out for their cultural and linguistic features, which differ from the rest of the region.
